A whale is not a fish

Buy Me A Coffee

Hi there! How are you? I hope you are doing fine just like we met last time or better than that.

What I was trying to paint?

I am working on a personal project that is A to Z animals where I am painting animals starting from A to Z. This time it was a turn for F for Fish. First I tried to paint beautiful sea and the sky and the Dolphin. The whole seascape! But I failed because the colors didn’t work. Then I painted a Whale and she is pretty but she is not a fish but she is a mammal. Let me tell you more about it.

First failed illustration

This illustration was a pain! I have been trying to draw it from last one week, apart from being busy, whenever I sat and tried drawing, it was just not coming out. First, I was trying to draw a Dolphin and let me tell you honestly, I failed! I have attached the image of that illustration as well because why not to show the bad attempt as well. Not everyday I draw a beautiful illustration. Some days are not so good days.

I think I did a good job with the sea water but I did terrible job with the colors of the Dolphin and the sky and I was also trying to do a different style of illustration from what I usaly do. If you remember, I tried similar kind of illustration before and I loved the blending brush from that digital painting.

Next illustration – a whale

When I realized that this the dolphin illustration is not working, I thought to paint something else and this illustration is for F for Fish of my A to Z animals project but after completing the whole illustration, I realized that whale is not a fish!! I am so silly but I have to share it with you, too!

I love how simple this is! I couldn’t paint much last week. I wanted to finish the Fish drawing but I couldn’t. I will try to do it this week. I hope I will be able to complete it.

What are you working on right now?

Thank you for reading!

  1. I can relate! I go through periods when my art just doesn’t come out the way I want it to (very frequently, it seems!). Sometimes the bad drawings help us get to the good ones, as long as we keep practicing 🙂

Your whale looks very nice, by the way!

    1. You are so right! If you remember the cat illustrations from the same project, I drew 2-3 illustrations before drawing the final one and I am so so happy how it turned out and the most important thing is I learned a lot from it.
